Northwestern R-I State Fair and Trap Season

Northwestern R-I State Fair and Trap Season

It was a really special time at the Missouri State Fair, as far as circumstances due to COVID. The Missouri State Fair went back to its roots and became an agricultural based fair. According to Mike Parson, as he stated in a past interview that “by going back to the basics of the original 1901 Missouri State Fair, we’ve been reminded of the importance of giving our young people the chance to have a hands on experience and be successful.” Which allows FFA and 4-H students to show their projects, and the state fair saw a 12% increase in livestock entries compared to last year due to the ongoing conditions that the United States faces. Northwestern FFA had a good showing for the state fair, as Anna Speichinger, and Hayden Harms represented the chapter. Both Anna and Hayden showed different varieties of crops, vegetables, fruit, and even pork bellies that were turned into slabs of bacon. Anna took home two grand champions in two categories which were canned fruit vegetables, and onions. Hayden also participated at the swine show in several classes. Each student should be proud of themselves because all their hard work didn’t go unnoticed. Thank you to Governor Mike Parson for all you have done by allowing our students to be able to attend livestock shows at the state fair.

The Northwestern trap team did very well this year in competing against other schools in the state. The students who participated in trap were Anna Speichinger, Hayden Harms, Jase Adams, Clayton Gregory, J.R. Bushery, Zach Brown and Kamron Hoag. At each trap meet the students had to shoot 50 rounds of shells and clays to acquire a score. Here are the students’ high scores at various trap meets. Anna’s highest score was 43 out of 50 and was shot at Area IV Trap shoot which was located at Prairie Grove Shotgun Sports in Columbia. Jase’s highest score was a 44 out of 50 and was shot at the county fair trapshoot in Salisbury. Clayton’s highest score was 47 out of 50 and was shot at the county fair trapshoot in Salisbury. Kamron’s highest score was a 42 out of 50 and was shot at Madison trapshoot that was hosted at Prairie Grove Shotgun Sports in Columbia. Zach’s highest shot a 38 out of 50 and it was also at Madison trapshoot that was hosted at Prairie Grove Shotgun Sports in Columbia. J.R highest score was a 35 out of 50 and was shot at Centralia hosted at Prairie Grove Shotgun Sports in Columbia. Hayden had the highest score possible on the Northwestern Trap team. He shot a perfect score of a 50 out 50 which he shot at Centralia and hosted at Prairie Grove Shotgun Sports in Columbia. As tradition when someone has a perfect round or rounds, the Northwestern team will take the hat of the individual who had shot a perfect round and give the hat to the coach. The coach will then throw the hat in the air while the team will shoot the hat.  Hopefully the team hits the hat while it is in the air. This has been a tradition in all of high school trap as it shows to other teams and individuals that this student has shot a perfect score.  It is an honor to show that and be proud of that accomplishment. Thank you guys for a great trap season! It made things feel normal again.
